24/7 Emergency Electrician Across the Central Coast, Newcastle & Hunter
When Electrical Faults Need to Be Addressed Immediately
Some electrical problems can be booked for another day. Others create an immediate risk to the home, the people inside it or the electrical system and need to be assessed without delay.
It is not always easy to tell whether a fault is an inconvenience or a genuine emergency. A burning smell, repeated safety switch trips or sudden power loss may have a cause that cannot be seen from the surface, so uncertainty itself is a reason to call.
ElitePEM responds with licensed, fully insured electricians and Level 2 ASP capability where network-side work is required. We assess what is happening, isolate immediate hazards and determine the safest path to restore or secure the electricity supply.
Our team operates from Wyong and covers the Central Coast, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Hunter region. During business hours, we can often attend within a few hours, with after-hours calls assessed according to urgency, location and the team’s current job load.

Recognising a Genuine Electrical Emergency
A total loss of power affecting only your property, burning smells from a switchboard or power point, visible sparks, exposed wiring or water contacting electrical fittings should be treated seriously. The same applies when a safety switch continues to trip and cannot be reset, or when storms have damaged a service line, point of attachment or private power pole.
Other faults may still need prompt attention without presenting the same immediate risk. A single circuit outage, one non-working power point or a failed light fitting can often wait a few hours, provided there are no signs of heat, smoke, arcing, water damage or exposed conductors.
The purpose of the first call is not to make you diagnose the fault yourself. We will ask clear questions, help you understand the immediate precautions to take and determine how urgently the property needs to be attended.
If the issue extends beyond the home’s internal wiring, ElitePEM’s Level 2 ASP capability means we can also assess authorised network-side work, including service connections, private poles, metering and Ausgrid defect notice rectification. Same-Day Emergency Response Across The Central Coast, Newcastle & Hunter
ElitePEM operates from Wyong at the northern end of the Central Coast. This gives our team practical access throughout the Central Coast and north into Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and the wider Hunter region.
During business hours, our team can often be on site within a few hours of the initial call. Outside normal operating hours, we assess the urgency of the situation when you contact us and respond as quickly as our location and current job load allow.
When an electrician arrives, the first priority is to identify the fault and remove any immediate electrical risk. This may involve testing the affected system, isolating dangerous circuits and confirming whether the fault is inside the home or connected to the incoming electricity supply.
Some issues can be repaired during the initial visit. Where parts, network coordination or further work are required, we will make the property safe where possible and explain what needs to happen next, including the expected scope and quote for the permanent repair.
Your call is handled by the ElitePEM team rather than being passed to an external call centre. This allows the information discussed during the first call to follow through to the electrician attending your property.
Level 2 ASP Capability For Network-Side Emergencies
Many residential electrical emergencies begin inside the home and fall within standard electrical work. Others occur at the connection between the property and the electricity network, where additional Level 2 ASP accreditation may be required.
A Level 2 ASP is authorised to perform certain work involving service line disconnections and reconnections, points of attachment, private power poles, metering and supply-side defects. An electrician who does not hold this accreditation may need to stop and refer the network-side component before the fault can be fully rectified.
In an emergency, that distinction matters. A damaged service line, compromised point of attachment, private power pole issue or urgent Ausgrid defect notice can require capability beyond internal household electrical work.
ElitePEM holds Level 2 ASP accreditation and can carry out authorised network-side work while coordinating with Ausgrid where required. This gives homeowners one experienced team to assess the fault, make the property safe and manage the next steps, whether the problem is inside the home or where the property connects to the network.

Why Emergency Electrical Work Should Always Be Done by a Licensed Electrician
In an emergency, the first priority is getting someone to the property. Speed matters, but it should not come at the expense of qualifications, correct testing or safe electrical isolation.
Unlicensed or incomplete emergency work can create secondary damage that may not become visible until later. A temporary repair that bypasses protection, conceals the original fault or leaves wiring non-compliant can cause the problem to return and make the eventual repair more complex.
Work completed by an unlicensed person may also create insurance and compliance concerns. If the installation needs to be inspected or repaired again, the homeowner may be left paying to remove unsafe work before the original fault can be addressed correctly.
ElitePEM holds a NSW Contractor Licence and Level 2 ASP accreditation and operates as a fully insured electrical contractor. Our wider accreditation stack includes an ACT Contractor Licence, CM3 certification, solar accreditation and certified infrared thermography.
The same structured team trusted to maintain more than 70 commercial sites responds to residential emergencies. Urgent work is approached with the same focus on safety, documentation, communication and accountable follow-through.
After the Emergency: Making the Repair Permanent
Emergency electrical work often happens in two stages. The first visit is focused on finding the fault, isolating immediate danger and making the property safe, followed by a permanent repair once the required parts, access or network arrangements are available.
Some faults can be repaired during a single visit. Others may require replacement components, a planned disconnection, coordination with Ausgrid or scheduled downtime before the work can be completed safely.
ElitePEM manages the electrical process from the initial assessment through to completion. We explain what has been isolated, what remains outstanding and what is required to complete the repair, reducing the need for the homeowner to repeat the situation to multiple contractors.
Emergency callouts can also uncover issues that have been developing for some time. Ageing switchboards, overloaded circuits, deteriorated connections and faulty appliances can all contribute to sudden electrical failures.
Where an underlying issue is identified, we will explain it clearly rather than leaving the homeowner with a recurring fault. Homeowners who have recently experienced an electrical scare can also arrange a broader property assessment to better understand the condition of the home’s electrical system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as an electrical emergency?
How quickly can an emergency electrician arrive?
What areas do you cover for emergency callouts?
Do you handle work on the Ausgrid network side, such as damaged service lines or defect notices?
What should I do before the electrician arrives?
If it is safe to do so, isolate the electricity at the main switch and remain clear of damaged wiring or water-affected electrical fittings. Do not repeatedly reset a safety switch that continues to trip, as it may be responding to an active fault.
If a powerline has fallen or is arcing, stay at least eight metres away and report it to Ausgrid on 13 13 88. For fire or an immediate threat to life, leave the affected area and call Triple Zero on 000.
